4 scientific personalities will present the 3 keynotes during the conference:

  • Bertrand Schatz , of Centre d'Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive, Montpellier: Using past data to determine the conservation status and the dynamics of Mediterranean plant communities.
  • Slim Benyacoub, of Badji Mokhtar - Annaba University: The Conservation of Biodiversity in the Maghreb against Economic Development, Demography and Global Warming: the case of Algeria.
  • David Grémillet of Centre d'Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive, Montpellier: The spatial ecology of shearwaters from the western Mediterranean - Scaling up from local to international conservation.
  • Virginie Baldy (IMBE Marseille) & Yildiz Thomas (CEFE-CNRS Montpellier), co-directors of Biodivmex

For the first time, the Alan Johnson Award for Conservation Biology will be attributed during the Conference. The winner of the Alan Johnson Award for Conservation Biology will receive a 1 000€ prize. The award will be attributed to a project presented during the conference to the best project science based and applied for conservation of biodiversity. The jury will be comprised of the members of the Scientific Committee of the conference and personalities from the Conservation biology world.

Biodivmex, CNRS Mistrals,  in collaboration with  Tour du Valat, supports the Mediterranean Conservation Science Conference will sponsor 2 or 3 young scientists from Mediterranean countries (outside EU) proposing talks on one of the following topics:

Theme 1: Biodiversity of poorly known environments, highly constrained by abiotic factors and biotic interactions
Theme 2: Biodiversity within socio-ecological systems (SES), shaped historically and within present landscape dynamics
The support will be decided on the basis of the summary

150€/person including accommodation in shared rooms (Hotel Atrium, Arles), lunch, coffee breaks, transport between Arles and Tour du Valat each day
